Have you ever asked anyone, what is success? Has anyone ever asked you, what is success? Well, today I'm asking YOU, what is success? Every person has his or her own definition of success. If you had asked me before I was born again, what is success? I probably would have said money and power, having it all.
Success is not money. Money can buy you a mansion on a hill, filled with priceless works of art. Money can fill your house with the finest furniture and your garage with luxury cars, but money cannot buy you a home filled with love and respect from the people who live there. Money can buy the finest doctors in an hour of sickness, but money cannot buy the God-given gift of health. Money can buy you a bed of solid gold, but money cannot buy you one minute of rest or inner peace. King Solomon, the richest monarch in ancient Israel whose stables had gold-plated hinges on every door, said, "Whoever loves money never has enough money; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income."-Ecclesiastes 5:10. Money will attract a truckload of people to you, but money cannot buy you the treasure of one true friend. Money will buy you food, but it can't buy a healthy appetite. Money can buy a cross around your neck, but money cannot buy a Savior in your heart.
Success is not power. Adolf Hitler had absolute power over Germany in one of history's most brutal and bloody dictatorships. He had his soldiers slaughter six million Jews with a brutality that no human mind can comprehend. On April 30, 1945, Hitler blew his brains out while hiding in his bunker. Yes, Hitler had power, but he was not successful. President Bill Clinton had absolute power to defend the people of America, but his leadership spawned the most corrupt, deceitful, and power-hungry administration in recent American history. Yes, Bill Clinton had power, but he was not successful. The Apostle Paul stood bound in chains before Felix, a Roman governor. As Paul reasoned with him about the "righteousness and judgement to come"-Acts 24:25, Felix became alarmed and terrified when Paul described his faith in Jesus Christ and the truth of what his Savior had done. Yes, Felix had power, but he was not successful.
We must believe we can succeed if we are to succeed. God wants us to succeed. And He promises to help us through His advice in the Bible. Joshua 1:8-This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
God made you a unique person that the world has never seen before and will never see again. You and I were born to do good. We were born to succeed in life. We were born to bless others' lives.
Ask me now, now that I'm born again, what is success? My answer: Success is knowing the one thing in life that God has assigned me to do and doing it with all my heart, soul, mind, and body.
Lord, I pray that every born-again believer who meditates in your Word will discover God's purpose for their life, that one thing He planned for them to do before they were even born. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Love in Christ, Jan :)
