What is lukewarm?

What does it mean that Jesus will vomit the lukewarm out of his mouth? Were they living a certain way?

It is first a cultural reference. Laodicea depended on piped water from an aqueduct, so the drinking water was tepid rather than cool or refreshing.

Get yourself a glass of warm water and try it. It's unpleasant. You will want to spit it out.

There was nothing that the church at the time was actively doing wrong, but it had become comfortable, lazy, self-satisfied, complacent.

Revelation 3:16-18

They thought they were doing pretty well. But God's judgement was that they were pitiful.

Thanks.

That is a scary verse, I don't want to be lukewarm. I don't feel on fire all day all the time, but some days more than others. And I mess up sometimes too.

The other scary verse is, Lord Lord I never knew you. Man that I don't want him to ever say to me. I just think about them sometimes because I only have 1 life and 1 eternity I don't want to screw it up.

I always took it to mean that he would 'spue you out of his mouth' meaning that you'd better get hot again or repent of losing your first love or he would spue you out of his body, ie the body of Chris. At the end of the warning we are told we must overcome.

This is my understanding.

Thank u Jesus I was just thinking how I was not in fire for the Lord as I once was. When I first gave my life to the Lord I had so much hunger for his word and to have a relationship with him. It sadness me that I have to say I do not feel it and I cry to have that great hunger again.

I pray you will get that hunger.

We need to 'pluck out' anything that hinders us from the path.

in Jesus.

effective

As I was reading what was posted my thoughts of poor little old me. I go through my high and lows, do not feel Gods presence. I have been blessed and continue to be Blessed, I get lost in selfpity. I just forget there will be days like this, they just seem to feel be more of them. I have to learn to take it all as joy and thank God. I do not want to be lukewarn and I find that when I am in my lows I withdraw, maybe that is why.:embarasse

Thank U

:singing:this is so great that God has given us another tool to talk to others for support and be blessed

I used to think that being 'hot' was that you had to go round preaching Jesus all day, be all the time in prayer and be a big mover and shaker in prophecy, gifts etc.

I think to be hot means to be devoted to Jesus, like you are to your husband/wife when you first meet them. Waiting for phone calls, letters, hanging on to thier every word. Its not about an 'outward show' but an inward show.

A woman whose fiance went away would not want to be seen hanging out or doing stuff she knew her future husband would be not pleased with, as it would show she did not care. I think this is the same with us and Jesus, we need to be acting like we love him, often Grace is used to cover disobedience, grace is not the power to cover disobedience but to overcome it.

If you are 'cold' you have a chance of re-finding your first love and getting 'hot'. If you are 'lukewarm' you are indifferent and apathetic. Jesus would rather us go totally cold than lukewarm.

Not teaching just thoughts.

I would like to add something to this to think about.

Jesus said because you are lukewarm I will spew you out of my mouth i wish that you were hot or cold etc..

Firstly hot or cold means you are either walking in the Lord fully or you are fully not going to. Lukewarm is like being a fence sitter. Most likey it is like people who want the blessings of the kingdom without the sufferings of the kingdom. Who want to get to heaven get provided for but they want to live in the lusts of this world.

Secondly He says he will spue them out of his mouth. We know that we are the body of Christ. Some of us are the arm, finger, foot, ear, mouth.

We are told the proper way to deal with sin in the body of Christ and Christ told us if you hand cause you to sin cut it off. This is about other believers who live in sin and wont repent and bring sin to the body and cutting them off from us. It is not about our literal hand.

Jesus spoke of not fellowshipping with certain people and so did paul even giving some over to satan.- Those who are the MOUTH have the authority by God to speak the word and judgement and it may just be them who Jesus will speak through to spue people out of the body of Christ.
