What Guide Do You Read?
author unknown

They lie on the table side by side
The Holy Bible and TV guide.

One is well worn and cherished with pride.
Not the Bible, but the TV guide.

One is used daily to help folks decide.
No, not the Bible, but the TV guide.

As the pages are turned, what shall they see.
Oh, what does it matter, turn on the TV.

Then confusion reigns, they can't all agree
On what they should watch on the old TV.

So they open the Book in which they confide.
No, not the Bible, but the TV guide.

The Word of God is seldom read.
Maybe a verse as they fall into bed.

Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be.
Not from reading the Bible, from watching TV.

So then back to the table side by side,
Lie the Holy Bible and the TV guide.

No time for prayer, no time for the Word,
The plan of Salvation is seldom heard.

But forgiveness of sin, so full and free,
Is found in the Bible, not on TV!

Cool poem sister. I thank GOD for encouraging me to keep the TV time minimal. I'm actually a big fan of the old school comedies, like Cosby Show.

Anyway, this poem makes a simple great point. We should consider our quality time with the Word of GOD. Are we dreading to read or are we truly sincere and on fire for GOD's Word?

The Word of GOD is GOD speaking to us, engrave this truth onto your heart.

Proverbs 8:10-12

10 Receive my instruction, and not silver,
And knowledge rather than choice gold;
11 For wisdom is better than rubies,
And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.
12 “ I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
And find out knowledge and discretion.

Loved that poem!

Here's a sequel to it, just for you!

Forget tv!

Time was when my Bible
Wasn't on the table
Beside the well-worn tv guide
Then one day my money
Became kinda funny
So I had to cancel
the tv guide.

I found that the tv
Remote had a push-key
you could push to get all of the shows
listed neatly each day
in a lovely display
right there in front of your nose.

Meanwhile, God knew my Bible
was sitting there idle
upstairs where it lay all alone,
So when dusting one day
The Book seemed to say
"Better dust me, then read me, Come On!"

So I sat myself down
And my face wore a frown,
But the Bible seemed like it just knew
And it opened right then
to Galatians 6:10*
And it changed my whole outlook--it's true!

*"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might."

I'm no longer a slob, and my every-day job
Is to read from that Bible God's truth
And the old tv guide
long since cast aside
just reminds me of my mis-spent youth!

That was really nice, Mary.

Thanks for sharing....

On second thought....

Rizen1, perhaps I shouldn't condemn all of tv, on second thought. There's always the Trinity Broadcasting Network!

Sorry if my doggerel (one couldn't really call that a "poem" that I posted last night!) seemed a bit self-righteous. :embarasse Pray for me!

Mary
