What does the Bible say about purgatory?

Misleading! There is a large cross that sits on top of it.
If on the bedroom wall I had a picture of my ex-girlfriend and a picture of my wife with those (obelisk/cross) proportions I would have an ex-wife.

Reaching for a straw.

Where is your apology?
Nothing of the sort.
Those "priests" are numerous enough they're easy to find.
Still no excuse on Indugences we see.
There's PLENTY to show the truth about them.
Why so obsessed?
People who are usually "offended" are:
Guilty of something.
Part of something.
Lying/hiding something.
Approve of the bad thing
Care for someone who does the first four.

:) That is a very good comment and point made.

But I don't think it is that relevant. Look at the obelisk. It is a nice structure. If nobody told you it was two parts you would have assumed it was always one with the goal of a cross on top.

This is what I think they though of when they received it.

We have to 'note' that it is not a statue of Baal.

Also the writing on it says:

Behold the Cross of the Lord!
Flee, you hostile powers!
The Lion of the tribe of Judah has conquered!

If you read my post # 6 you would find that Catholics can make a sound case for you, a non-OSAS believer completely and utterly misrepresenting God as unjust.

If you had to share your beliefs, I am sure I could make many more such misrepresentations of God and scripture.

I am not asking you to accept Catholic teaching or be a Catholic. Only to follow scripture that instructs us to properly judge all matters. Including the beliefs of others.

  • John 7:24 instructs us to judge with righteous judgment rather than according to appearance.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:21 instructs us to test all things and hold fast to what is good.
  • Proverbs 18:13 warns against answering a matter before hearing it fully.
  • Proverbs 18:17 reminds us that the first side of an argument may seem right until it is examined.
  • Acts 17:11 commends the Bereans for examining the Scriptures daily to determine whether Paul's teaching was true.
  • Romans 14:13 warns against judging one another in a way that becomes a stumbling block.
  • 2 Corinthians 4:2 speaks against deceit and distorting the word of God.
  • Exodus 20:16 prohibits bearing false witness against our neighbour.

Non-OSAS implies that:

Person A can repent and be used by God to serve Him for 2hrs, after which they receive eternal bliss.

Person B can repent and be used by God to serve Him for 50 years, after which they stumble terribly in year 51 and receive eternal punishment.

That makes God terribly unjust, unless of course person B gets a second chance in Purgatory.

This is not how God judges apostates, or how Christians fall.

They do not simply stumble, they harden their heart against the Holy Spirit so that they can go do what they want without conviction of sin.

A woman I spent 6 months in communication with, directly confessed to me that the Holy Spirit warned her not to chase after what she believed was the spirit of her former boyfriend, and she told me she had to harden her heart against God so that she could chase after that spirit. Then when the Holy Spirit did indeed leave her, she was devastated by its departure, and because the spirit she was chasing was allegedly a human one, it was not always available to be with her. So she went insane to the point her folks put her in a mental institution. I was able, over 6 months of weekly communication, figure out what the root cause of her problems was: an incestuous relationship with her dad and brother corrupted her sexuality to the point she wanted a non consensual relationship with God: which the Holy Spirit would not offer her, however this other allegedly human spirit of her boyfriend, would have that kind of relationship with her, so that's why she pursued it.

She did not blaspheme the Holy Spirit, and so all this was fixable, until i'm fairly convinced she killed herself within a week of me gently urging her to forgive her father, so that she could be healed of the trauma. -and i think she knew, that ultimately her desires and spiritual deceptions did all come from that trauma. -so i can understand her giving up, the realization of her multi year long spiritual deception was all trauma.. was too much for her.

----

I had a brief girlfriend in 2017 who rejected me as i was too righteous for her, she told me she was a Jezebel and a prostitute compared to me. (she only had 4 prior partners so i don't get it) I have tried praying for her but have hit a brick wall: she blasphemed the Holy Spirit in her pagan witchcraft practices. I don't know when this happened but I don't think it was before we met.

I did not learn all these matters by arguing on internet forums. I actually care about people, pray for them, and about half the time I get observable results immediately, sometimes it takes 10 years to get the second or third witness. For example, someone apologized to me 6 years later for arguing with me about the rapture, said God had opened her eyes.

Short answer: The Bible says nothing about purgatory.
Sigh... Enter doom.
But since many people believe in purgatory, we should examine the doctrine in light of Scripture.
According to the Catholic Encyclopedia [...] Is the doctrine of purgatory in agreement with the Bible? Absolutely not!

Oiginal article: What does the Bible say about purgatory? | GotQuestions.org
I guess Admin @Chad fired his shot and moved on? Because I'm laughing at "Got Questions dot org". My second thought was, "here comes everyone else examining the doctrine of what they found online", when Saint James chapter 1, The Word says: (NABRE)
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it.
6 But he should ask in faith, not doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind.

Obviously, this is just two verses, but Christians only argue with each other about who God loves the most when none of us stop to ask God in prayer what He, the Truth has to say on anything.

Speaking of, I read to the bottom of page 1, then noted OP has nothing to chime in with. I suppose that's fine if we go along with "as long as you bend the knee and confess that Jesus Christ is LORD (of lords, King of kings, GOD above existence), you'll all be okay.

So whatever a Christian of the Roman Catholic flavor did to you, @Chad , you must forgive them all for whatever bothers you concerning "Purgatory". I err on the side of Hope (God's Divine Mercy) when it comes to such a thought process. And it is a process that is, quite frankly, beyond our copies of The Gospel of Christ. Those "tough questions" people ask about the countless that have not heard a particle of the Gospel in this life. God already claimed every child ever as His - in Heaven. Try innocence? Not you, but God.

So, naysayers, if you want to behave like God has no interest in mercy or justice or any sliver of goodness for situations only God can handle... go argue with ancient grammar about Paradise and Heaven and lost books or how tall all the Nephilim are. That's fine, the Gospel is not a college course with a doctorate. How dare any of us think like this?

I will give credit where it's due: Thank you Orthodoxy, as I lovingly call Red and Blue Team, for your ancient Saints keeping the few precious records we have safe enough to read today as The Word of God. Because we can always just ask God and expect His response.

A place or situation like "Purgatory" makes sense because Jesus loves you. You don't have the monopoly on playing hopscotch buffet with the Holy Book in your hand to justify any thing.

How about we fast and Talk to Jesus and report back in a week about "purgatory"? That would be nice.

Whilst this is mostly true, it is also true that God:

A. Blessed us with high intelligence Heb 2:7
B. Gifted us with the knowledge of good and evil Gen 3:22
C. Wants us to judge Him and be thoroughly convinced that He is good and just.

1. Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD…”

2. Romans 12:2
“…that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

3. 1 Thessalonians 5:21
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”

4. Acts 17:11
The Bereans examined the Scriptures daily to determine whether Paul's teaching was true.

5. Romans 3:4
“…that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.”

6. Ezekiel 18:25
“Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?”

7. Genesis 18:25
“Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

8. Psalm 34:8
“O taste and see that the LORD is good…”

9. Psalm 145:17
“The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.”

10. Romans 14:5
“…Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.”

At the very end of the sctipture we locate a reminder not to add nor to subtract from the Holy Word of Yehovah. The scriptures indicate Paradise, the only posible Purgatory mention, is emptied out,,, closed at the Resurrection of Yashua.

Look at that. So who is right?
I know there is a list of things that all agree on but most of what Catholics do, everyone else does not.

Pope Gregory I

In AD 601, Pope Gregory the Great gave instructions to missionaries converting the Anglo-Saxons in Britain.
His directions included:
  1. Preserve suitable pagan temples rather than demolish them.
  2. Destroy the pagan idols inside.
  3. Purify the temples with holy water.
  4. Install Christian altars and saints' relics.
  5. Replace pagan sacrificial celebrations with Christian religious feasts.
  6. Allow people to retain certain familiar celebrations while changing their religious meaning.
Still waiting on your response to Indulgences.
So by their belief, sweet ol' Granma could be a devout Catholic most of her life and has ONE bad day, get's mad, does some very sinful stuff, has a heart attack and dies.
Guess she's going DOWN. But wait!!! The living can "Pay money" to the CC to get her out of "Purgatory" faster.
In other words, over a long time the saints have excess so that goes into a "pot" and people in "Purgatory" can get some of it but ONLY if living relatives pay money to the CC.

The Bible contains no explicit instructions for granting indulgences, nor does it describe the Catholic system of partial and plenary indulgences.

Nowhere in the Bible does God command Christians to make, carry, or pray the Rosary. There are no biblical instructions for its construction or use.
As I've stated there are more but just ONE of these is plenty of evidence to NOT be Catholic and simply leads into a long road of what they continue to do wrong.

Your posts have a repeated habit of making accusations without proving them and then creating a rabbit trail.

KingJ:
A Christian must properly judge matters.
Medic: You are cherry-picking Scripture.
KingJ: Prove it.
Medic: Let's talk about the Earth orbiting the Sun.

You were exposed for lying. You are now guilty of a false accusation. Instead of dealing with these two you want to discuss all that is wrong with Catholicism....

It is like trying to have a discussion with a child throwing a tantrum.
