What does it mean "to bear his cross"?

Hi. I have been often thinking what it means that some one helped Jesus to bear His cross to Golgotha. (Mar 15:21) The "Simon a Cyrenian" was forced to bear His cross.
I now started thinking that maybe Jesus was carrying the cross at the whole time but Simon beared it for Him?

But my original question is, what does it mean when God chooses some one to bear the Lord's cross? What does it mean to us?

Maybe it means that we don't go through anything alone, but the holy spirit is with us.

Matthew 10:37-39 NKJV
37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

Matthew 16:24-27 NKJV
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

As we can read in those scriptures brother, when we take our cross and follow Jesus, we are denying ourselves, our needs, our wants and our dreams and aspirations and we are giving it all to God. Then, we become His servant and we carry our cross, because one day we will be rewarded for carying it.

It is not exactly in the same manner as when Jesus was crucified, because He died for the sins of the World. When we bear our cross and carry it in Jesus name, we are living for Jesus and doing His will. This should be done in all aspects of our lives. Jesus should always be the center, most important part of our lives, even our family is nothing, Jesus should be everything.

I hope you understand. The Holy Spirit helps us indeed, by comforting us.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.

Glad you provided that piece sister Word of Life, I didn't know you posted it. God bless you

I just want to make a point about the red highlighted portion. The Holy Spirit is indeed always with us, so long as we walk with Him too - requiring obedience and faith. As believers in Christ Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit with us who lives in us (2 Timothy 1:14)

Hey, those are good scriptures posted!
I may have said un clearly in my first post what I wanted to know because the original question was left unanswered. I simply ponder what it means that some one helped our Lord Jesus to bear His cross.

What it says to me that as followers of Christ we can be His Armour bearer. Let me explain, when we go to witness to some one we wont (should not) go as if going alone or going to win some soul from our current knowledge and reasoning. But ask God to give us the words and that Holy spirit speaks through us and gives the words to speak. And love of course. So it's Lord's work because only Jesus can save. But we may walk with Him, follow Him and be Armour bearer when Jesus leads us to the battle.

I hope my wording makes sense?

Note:
There's one thing though, Simon was compelled to bear Jesus' cross. I don't know what that means, if he did not do it's of his free will.

I have prayed and I believe it means that when our physical strength fails God can provide help by any means He will's. And in every other thing God can provide us help and our daily needs. Like Jesus promised that He will take care of us if we just seek for His kingdom and every will be added to us. (Mat 6:33)

And in this particular case a non-believer(?) was put to help.

Also Mat 17:27 speaks about how God provides.

Thank Jesus!
