Jesus replied, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35 NLT
Since Jesus described Himself as the “bread of life” and as a well of water that would satisfy any thirst, then perhaps you should consider today what you’re hungry for and what could satisfy your thirst. Are you trying to satisfy your hunger with food that could never leave you feeling whole and satisfied? Are you even aware of what you’re hungry for in the first place?
If you can work backward, consider the areas of your life where you struggle with desires or anxieties. What are you most concerned about or ashamed of before God? Those are the places where you are experiencing hunger and thirst. But those are also the areas where you are most likely to seek inadequate food and drink to bring satisfaction.
The challenge today is to ask how Jesus can become the food and drink that satisfies those longings and struggles in your life. Your hunger is an important clue. Face that emptiness in your life, and ask God to help you find what can truly fill it.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to rely on You as bread for my life today.
