[After all] what [a]kind of glory [is there in it] if, when you do wrong and are punished for it, you take it patiently? But if you bear patiently with suffering [which results] when you do right and that is undeserved, it is acceptable and pleasing to God. 1 Peter 2:20 AMPC
Imagine you’re eight years old and you do something your mom told you not to do. You get in trouble and spend some quality moments in time-out. Would anyone call you brave? Would people say you did the right thing by doing the wrong thing? Would your grandchildren years later call you a hero?
This is likely a story you wouldn’t share—except in pointing out what not to do. You’ve lived through course corrections in life, and you’ll probably live through them again.
But what about those times when you suffer for doing the right things? History often celebrates those kinds of stories but living through them is no fun.
God knows of your unshakable moments when you suffer for taking a stand. He notices when no one else will. He’s the One who can tell you, “Well done.”
Prayer: Father, if I suffer negative consequences for breaking Your law, then I am no different than anyone else. If I suffer for doing the right thing, that’s when I see proof that I am following where You’re leading me.
