Was The Church To Bring In The Kingdom?

B-A-C:
- Was The Church To Bring In The Kingdom?
- Just curious... what exactly... is your definition of "the kingdom"?

'Giving thanks unto the Father,
which hath made us meet to be partakers
of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness,
and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son:'

(Col.1:12,13)

Praise God!

Hello BAC,

'The kingdom of His dear Son.' - or, 'the kingdom of the Son of His love, or His Beloved Son' - this has regard to a sphere far above all heavens, where Christ sits at God's right hand. Where Christ is sovereign - 'Head over all things to His ekklesia, which is His Body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all' (Eph.1:10,20-23, Eph. 5:5).

This sovereignty had been kept secret, or, '
hid in God' (Eph.3:9), 'hid from ages and generation's (Col.1:25), but after the kingdom proclaimed by the Lord and by ''them that heard Him' (Heb.2:4), had been postponed, it was revealed, and, 'made known' (Eph.3) . The subjects of this Divine sovereignty, on their believing this subsequent revelation, are 'sealed' (or designated) for their inheritance, which is to be enjoyed with Christ (Eph. 1:13).

This relates to those who come under this sovereignty.

---------------------------------

* The word, 'kingdom', is used in different ways, in Scripture, as you have said:-

The Kingdom of Heaven -
The Kingdom of God
The Kingdom of the Father (Matt.13:43)
The Kingdom of the Son of Man (Matt.16:28)
The Kingdom of His dear Son (described above) (Col.1:13)
The Everlasting Kingdom (2 Pet.1:11)
The Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ (Rev.11:15)

In Christ Jesus
Chris

Isnt the Kingdom of God within you?

If the spirit dwells within you... you have the key to the Kingdom. Then you can enter. But the kingdom is not inherited by flesh and blood.

1 corinthians 15:50

The problem with Judah is they keep thinking the Kingdom is theirs alone when it was orginally meant for Israel. But Jesus, who is the rightful King, was of both lineage. And even He had to die.

Anyway..what it means for Jesus church...we already have the keys so all we need to do is declare it. It is not an earthly kingdom but a heavenly one. Modern day israel keeps trying to build something with human hands. But it cannot be built by human hands! If it was Jesus would have stayed a carpenter and kept building the fancy temple in Jerusalem. Which is no longer there. Lol

@Lanolin,
Hello there,

1) Regarding your first point:-

'And when He was demanded of the Pharisees,
when the kingdom of God should come,
He answered them and said,
"The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Neither shall they say,' Lo here!' or, 'lo there!'
for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.'

(Luke 2 17:20-21)

Our Lord was responding to the Pharisees demand regarding when the kingdom of God should come, and He tells them that 'it is within you', for He their King was there in the midst of them, but they did not have eyes to see or ears to hear, and did not acknowledge Him. A kingdom necessitates the presence of a King, and He was there in the midst of them did they but know it!

2) The 'keys of the kingdom' were given to Peter, in Matt.16:19. He exercised this power in Acts 2 (in Israel) and in Acts 10 (among the Gentiles).

3) The hope of the nation of Israel was for the kingdom to be restored to Israel, and for the promises made to Abraham to be fulfilled (Acts 1:6), that will take place upon the earth.

4) There is also a heavenly hope which Abraham looked for, and those of like faith (Hebrews 6) - a city not made with hands which will descend out of heaven to the earth, and the millennial reign of Christ. Then there is a hope which is 'far above all heavens' which the Church which is His Body will occupy.

Praise God!

Chris

Yes Chris but at the time the Kingdom was split into Judah and Israel. There was a northern kingdom and a southern one. Thats why there was a lot of trouble with Judah (the Jews).

Israel has enlarged her borders to include the gentiles, but the jewish people had always resisted the Holy Spirit, sadly, even Jesus own family were unbelieving.

When Jesus talked about the kingdom within you, He also meant He would come and dwell within us (as we are temples of the holy spirit). Many times his followers asked well when are you going to restore the kingdom to israel and they expected Him to take up residence at the temple, on the throne as it were. But Jesus told them you know this temple building, its going to be destroyed and not one stone will be left.

The jewish people still have hope in Messiah but they did not recognise Him when He was among them! They were blinded. They still expect a messiah to come and several false messiahs had come and gone claiming the kingdom after Jesus ascended. Muhammed was one of them and managed to make a whole religion out of it (islam) that ensares people to this day.

I edited your reply. Seems, civility is at times foreign to you. If you were talking to those who do not believe, I might even understand a bit of frustration on your part.

The dear brother who asked you the question, has a track record here at Talk Jesus of being solid in Scripture and discernment. Even in disagreement between us, he has still maintained respective communication, which all of us attempt to do in our correspondence. Showing our Love one for another is righteous for us to do. These are but a few verses to show you why.

"These things I command you, that you love one another. John 15:17
Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8
But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; 1 Timothy 4:9
Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 1 Peter 1:22
For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 1 John 3:11

We are all at different levels of learning, so, with that in mind. Realize that what you believe everyone should know is not necessarily true to what they do. As a Servant in Christ Jesus, we should engage with each other in a manner that uplifts even while instructing others. Always to the Glory of God.

So, please take this as a kindly rebuke that you should take to heart in how you reply to others while here at Talk Jesus.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.
