Was Jesus Poor?

2Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Evidently, if we do NOT know what things God has already given (which is all things) which is found "through the knowledge of him" then we will not have much. We might even be poor, and lacking in many are's of our life!!! Why? Unless we like being poor and lacking. May be some might think we are more holy, and pure because we lack, because we think we are suffering like the Lord. Jesus was NEVER poor nor did he lack anything, neither should his church!!!

Are you talking about money here or love, what didn't Jesus lack exactly? Are you saying I should buy myself a pack of donuts, I would feel better if I had donuts.

This is staggeringly ill-informed. Has it not occurred to you that many of Peter's audience were slaves?

You keep insisting that Jesus was never poor contrary to all the evidence.

This seems to me to be dangerously close to twisting Scripture to fit an agenda.

Please reconsider what you are saying

There is no "evidence" that Jesus was ever poor only misunderstanding of scripture on our part. What is "twisting" of scriptures into a false doctrine are those who say the opposite. The only agenda I have is revealing the truth of what the bible says, and not some man made thinking that leads no one but into wrong thinking which causes wrong believing, which leads to not being able to experience what God has provided to his Church. No one can experience beyond what they believe, because what you believe is what you are experiencing today.

We know that Jesus was born poor.

Luke 2:22 mentions the sacrifice of a pair of doves or two young pigeons. That is following the command of Leviticus 12. The mother of a firstborn is to sacrifice a year old lamb. An exception is made for those who cannot afford a lamb - they are to offer a pair of doves.

That is very funny because Mary, and Joseph was given "gold" at the birth of Jesus. Poor people do not possess gold!!! (Matt 2:11)

How do you account for it then?

Lev 12:8 And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean. (KJV)

The Hebrew word for "not able" means, "to not find, or have access to". For Mary, and Joseph, their inability for find a "room" for Jesus birth was not because they did not have any money, but because the town was overflowing with people as they were required by law to come to be taxed. Being unable to find a room would also mean the shortage of lambs to offer. Turtle doves, or pigeons were to be used as an option of not being able to acquire a lamb. Besides, Jesus himself was the "Lamb of God" to be offered up, so Mary did have what was required by the law.

2 Cor 8:9; For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.

Was He rich? Doubtful, but even if He was... He became poor.

The wise men gave Jesus gold? How much? My wife has a gold ring, even at full value that money could easily be spent in a couple of months. It's even possible they gave it to those who were "poorer" than themselves.

In any case... what is rich? I think if we asked most Americans if they were rich, they would say no... yet compared to many
third world countries we are millionaires.

The Hebrew word for "not able" means, "to not find, or have access to". For Mary, and Joseph,

I'm sure there were many lambs available. The law didn't give proviso for if they were "avaiable". It only made
an exception if you couldn't afford one.

Besides, Jesus himself was the "Lamb of God" to be offered up, so Mary did have what was required by the law.

Except this had to be done within 7 days. I think she would have missed it by a few days if she waited 33 years for Him to be sacrificed.

You are right Jesus became poor on the cross!!

Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

The word, "peace" means, "welfare, that is, health, and prosperity,". When did this happen?

Time plays no part in eternity where things were determined before the foundation of the world, where time did not exist. Using your thinking, then you missed salvation because Jesus died 2,000 years ago, where you were not even born!

It would make no sense at all for God to send his Son to accomplish all of his will without providing every thing he needed to fulfill it. Jesus never lacked anything during his life!!!

Luke 8 -3
Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod's household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means

I do agree Jesus and his disciples lacked for nothing because Jesus was teaching us how to be content. these men had very little if anything materialistic wise and they liked it that way. Again they lacked for nothing. If you want nothing of this world you lack nothing of this world!!

How can a person be content with nothing, or liked having nothing when they never lacked anything? That don't make any sense.

Jesus said....

Luke 22:35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

Luke 9:3
He told them: "Take nothing for the journey--no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.
