verbally abusive older parents

How do you honour a parent that is abusive that you only can have superficial or low contact with, or none? You can still be nice, not say anything back that is evil, you CAN hold them accountable as that is about saving their soul, it can all be done nice way. You might still call or you might put boundaries down when the **** show starts. You try to shift the focus. But you do not accept abuse and you say that. You can send cards and gifts. You get the idea. It does not mean you are mean to them when you protect your health. But many think black and white, but the reality is not.

And for those who think, it is not that bad, and that only physical abuse when extreme is okay, think again do your own research and google emotional abuse, mental abuse, spiritual abuse, sexual abuse, financial abuse and psychological abuse all just as detrimental to health, and you can actually develop health issues.

God doesn`t want anyone to get abused for years to the point of danger to health, it is better to separate.

Is that the gospel according to Hanna. You know better than Jesus, Paul and OT prophets?

Please quote more scripture and less opinion. You are a Christian right? You do believe the bible is the word of God right?

It is not black and white, when someones health is on the line they are allowed to take precautions.
no matter if you are the parent or something else, it does not give you the right to abuse another. The bible tells us how to treat one another. If someone is behaving maliciously, the bible says come out of them.

People like you need to be terrified of God. If you know what scripture says and you teach others that your opinion > scripture or you mock scripture, you will appear before God one day as a false teacher.

And this verse and verses like it will become applicable to you.

Matt 18:6 If anyone causes one of these little ones those who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

You are beginning to sound alot like a pharisee, only the word... only the word... only the word. No room for the work of the Holy Spirit.

If you are dealing with a person who calls themselves a Christian but is teaching or giving advice on a serious matter that completely and utterly opposes what Scripture clearly states, it becomes a matter of me admonishing the individual.

Much like I do with you every time you push something that supports Calvinism.

@Hannah1 is suggesting that if we are emotionally abused, we can divorce, when Scripture is crystal clear that divorce is permitted for adultery, death, or complete separation.

Matthew 19:9, Romans 7:2–3, 1 Corinthians 7:15.

She should stick 100% to scripture when discussing a material matter and help the individual understand the wisdom of God behind the laws.

This line also shows ignorance.

Pharisees were guilty of:

1. Hypocrisy, appearing righteous outwardly while being corrupt inwardly, Matthew 23:27–28
2. Seeking praise, recognition, and honour from people, Matthew 23:5–7
3. Pride and self-righteousness, trusting in their own righteousness and despising others, Luke 18:9–14
4. Elevating human traditions above God's commandments, Matthew 15:3–9, Mark 7:8–13
5. Neglecting the weightier matters of the law, especially judgment, mercy, and faith, Matthew 23:23
6. Being concerned with outward religious appearance while neglecting inward purity, Matthew 23:25–28
7. Exploiting vulnerable people, including devouring widows' houses, Matthew 23:14
8. Burdening others with religious requirements while not helping them bear those burdens, Matthew 23:4
9. Loving positions of honour and status, Matthew 23:6–7
10. Making long prayers for appearance and recognition, Matthew 23:14
11. Being spiritually blind while claiming to be teachers of others, Matthew 23:16–24
12. Blocking people from entering the kingdom of heaven, Matthew 23:13
13. Rejecting God's prophets and persecuting those sent by God, Matthew 23:29–35
14. Rejecting Christ and seeking to destroy Him, Matthew 12:14, John 11:53
15. Majoring on minor religious details while neglecting more important matters, Matthew 23:23–24
16. Outwardly appearing holy while being full of greed, self-indulgence, and iniquity, Matthew 23:25–28

------------

From this list I can accuse both you and @Hannah1 of points 4,5,7,11 & 12.

Children who disrespected parents and people who divorce because of abuse are not respecting scripture or grasping the seriousness of the matter. Both items could warrant capital punishment / a graphic and violent death by stoning. Deuteronomy 21:18–21, Exodus 21:15, Exodus 21:17, Leviticus 20:10, Deuteronomy 22:22.

We are not discussing an immaterial Rom 14:5 type matter.

I cringe when I hear personal opinion and theories being pushed on material matters. It shows zero discernment or fear and respect of God. Someone who should definitely never ever give 'Christian' advice.
