And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Act 2:42 NKJV
That first generation of Christians living in Jerusalem set many amazing examples for believers today. Today’s scripture verse says that they were united in their love for Jesus and committed to sharing their possessions and financial assets among themselves.
That’s love in action, isn’t it? But it’s also an example of a recognition that God owned everything they had—and therefore they were able to let go of their possessions and money for the good of others.
So what should this example mean to you? Simply that it’s a good idea to be alert for opportunities to share with those who need help—to love others with an attitude of what’s mine is yours.
When you share out of a heart of loving generosity, you not only meet the needs of others but also glorify God…and you put yourself in a position to receive His blessings. That’s a big win for everyone involved!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the privilege of fellowship with other believers. Help me to always be on the lookout for opportunities to express my love for my brothers and sisters by meeting their needs—whatever they may be. Remind me daily that everything I have belongs to You.
