Rare is the man who doesn’t want to marry a woman who possesses this kind of passion for kissing. But just as rare is the man who understands what fuels this desire in a woman.
The Song’s lyrics explain, “Your name is like its spreading fragrance.” Since the concept behind the word name includes character, and since spreading out is an extravagant act (see John 12:3), the young bride in the Song desires to be kissed because of husband’s intoxicating character. This is one of the reasons scripture warns against “bad company” that “corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33) and shows people how to develop the kind of outstanding character that makes a man kissable.
How does a man develop this kind of character? By obeying the One of whom the psalmist sang, “Surely the righteous will praise your name [character], and the upright will live in your presence” (Psalm 140:13).
