For I will not trust in and lean on my bow, neither shall my sword save me. But You have saved us from our foes and have put them to shame who hate us. In God we have made our boast all the day long, and we will give thanks to Your name forever. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! Psalm 44:6-8 AMPC
Weapons won’t always rescue you, and your skills will often let you down. But God rescues in the ways that really matter. You’ll never need to be ashamed of God, even when others are ashamed that they lost. Let people know what God has done for you, and show Him appreciation every day.
If that sounds a lot like the passage you just read, it’s because it was supposed to. It’s a summary of those who choose an unshakable response.
The more you trust in anything other than Christ, the more shaken you will become. Lean on your bow, trust in your sword, and see people as enemies—and you’ll find those things can’t replicate the certainty found in a deep trust in God.
Prayer: God, my lips might sound more courageous than my heart really is. I can get caught up in the idea of developing a personal strategy for dealing with things I can’t control. Help me to ask for help, to trust You to help me, and to know that these will always be my best choices.
