'Not one of you from this wicked generation will live to see the good land I swore to give your ancestors, except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see this land because he has followed the LORD completely. I will give to him and his descendants some of the very land he explored during his scouting mission.' Deuteronomy 1:35-36 NLT

Caleb was one of the twelve spies who searched out the Promised Land prior to the Israelites’ forty-year sojourn in the wilderness. He was one of the only ones to advocate for Israel’s immediate possession of the land. As such, he was one of the only ones from his generation who survived the wilderness to see the Israelites enter the Promised Land.

When he spied out the land, did Caleb not see the giants who lived there? Did he miss the fortified cities? No. He saw everything the other spies saw, but his vision didn’t stop at the difficulties they’d face. Caleb saw a powerful God who led His people out of slavery with miracle after miracle. Caleb’s faith in God was stronger than his fear of the enemy.

There will be times when your faith in God will put you in the minority. Your opinions won’t be popular with the leaders of this world. When you face such a time, remember that Caleb’s faith was rewarded while the other spies were allowed to die in the wilderness.

Prayer: Lord, may my faith be stronger than my fear.
