We are Always subject to local / federal laws and there are consequences to disobeying those. Jail, prison, fines, etc.
Since the cross -- we are under grace -- God's grace. No one has to be a Slave to sin any longer.
The Ten Commandments have been adjusted in the New Testament. They are actually Stricter. IE -- to even Look at a woman in a lustful way is a sin. But God wants Relationship with each of us. He puts a desire in a believer's heart to Want to obey God's Word. It Won't be a cumbersome thing for us. The New Testament says that the reason For the Commandments was to show us that it's impossible to keep all of them All the time. Ya break One, you're guilty of All of them. Maybe it doesn't seem Fair , but it Is God's Way. He's showing us our need For a Savior. And Jesus Christ is The One and only Savior.
Our jails/ prisons are Full of people who can't seem to obey laws. Hopefully the penalty Of being in jail / prison will cure a person From intentionally breaking the laws. But, since prisons / jails are full and over-flowing, it would seem that people Don't. but, on the Other hand. Jails/ prison's Do provide a roof over people's heads, 3 meals a day, a shower , out-door exercise. Hmmmm -- maybe Too comfortable. Punishment Should be UNpleasant.
