I rejoiced greatly that I have found [some] of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father. 2 John 1:4 NKJV

You can read about a lot of people in the Old Testament who didn’t follow God faithfully. It seems as if you can’t go more than a chapter or two without reading about an unfaithful king, a rebellious people, or a God-inspired course correction. At the same time, though, you can read about faithful followers in the Old Testament and New Testament alike.

Tucked away in the New Testament book of 2 John is a verse that indicates that some followers of Jesus encouraged the apostle John by walking in the truth in a world with no shortage of lies.

This is important because God can take a small group of unshaken followers and ignite a flame that blazes far beyond their reach. Because God leads, He loves to see people follow Him. Even when His followers seem few, God can use their lives to introduce those who seek to a God who can be found.

God can redeem people, forgive their sins, and give them purpose. The world could use more examples of those who are faithful and unshaken.

Prayer: God, this isn’t a time for me to be sleepy. Give me the courage to rise to the occasion and share Your love. I don’t want to be afraid or give up. May it be said at the end of my life that I was faithful—to You.
