Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: "Throw every newborn Hebrew boy into the Nile River. But you may let the girls live." Exodus 1:22 NLT
Jacob was right to be concerned about whether his family would think of Egypt as their permanent home. One king of Egypt invited them in as guests, but when a new king took the throne, there was a different view of Egypt’s long-term guests.
Jacob’s family had grown large and powerful. They were no longer considered guests but slaves—no longer celebrated but controlled.
This new king did something unthinkable. To control the population of Hebrews, he made it legal for the people of Egypt to kill Israelite boys.
It’s hard to endure injustice. God asks you to do the right thing, which makes it hard to see other people refusing to do the same. These people seem to celebrate lawlessness and champion what’s acceptable over what’s right.
Endurance sometimes means believing God can be trusted with the outcome of your worst circumstances. What happens to you may not be God’s plan, but the bad choices of others can strengthen your willingness to trust a good God to help you with the choices you need to make.
Prayer: God, Your standard is best, but not everyone follows it. I can make popular decisions or I can choose Your plan. Let me make the right choice and trust You with everything else.
