And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, "By what power or by what name did you do this?" Acts 4:7 ESV
The distinguished Jewish council in Jerusalem had gathered en masse to try, convict, and punish two of Jesus Christ’s leading apostles. Their carefully selected leading question, however, backfired. Instead of allowing them to judge Peter and John, the Holy Spirit turned the tables. To get the best sense of what’s happening, you may want to read Acts 4:9-12 aloud once or twice.
After that dramatic and inspired response, what happened next? “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition” (Acts 4:13-14).
Talk about turning the tables! All they could do was command Peter and John to quit talking about Jesus. Of course, that backfired badly as you’ll hear rather dramatically by reading Acts 4:19-22 aloud once or twice.
Never stop talking about God the Father, God the Son, and God the Hoy Spirit. May they empower what you do and say these first days of summer.
Prayer: Lord, yes, please empower me to speak about You with supernatural boldness.
