What does it mean to be in HIm?

Lots of people tell me we should be in HIm
But what does that actually mean in real life?

How are we in Him

Simple answers pleaseThanks

Simple answers? Hmmm...

John 15 talks quite a bit about us abiding in Jesus, and Him abiding in us. (the vine and the branches).
This means many different things to different people.
To me, it means having the Spirit in me.. makes me like Jesus. If we act like Him, love like Him, forgive like Him.. then He is in us. ( 1 Jn 2:6; )
John 6:56; says if we partake of communion then He abides in us.
1 John 2 also talks quite a bit about us abiding in Him, and He abiding in us. 1St John 3 says if we practice sinning, he doesn't abide in us.
1 John 3:24; says if we keep His commandments He abides in us. It also says if we love one another He abides in us.
Finally in 1 John 4, it says those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God have God abiding in them.
John 4:12; if we love one another God abides in us.

In other words, its all fine and good to say Jesus is in me. But if you aren't showing the fruit of the Spirit (proof that the Spirit lives in you)
Does Jesus really live in you? Or is it just words someone told you to say?
2 John 1:9; says people can go too far in avoiding the teachings of Christ, it says these people do have God in them.

Do people see Jesus when they look at you? Do you live like Him? Love like Him?
Give your time to others like Him? Pray and care for people like Him?

I'm not sure it gets simpler than that.

Did you know that there are 76 verses in the New Covenant that talk about us being "In Christ"? But these are meaningless unless you know the meaning of the word Christ. You see...Christ is not Jesus' last name. It means literally "The anointed one, and His anointing" Now are you ready for this? Before Jesus went back to heaven, in the clouds....

Acts 1:4-9 (NIV)
4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized witha]">[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized withb]">[b] the Holy Spirit.”

6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

Jesus anointed us to do what He did. To evangelize the world, to lay hands on the sick and see them healed, to cast out demons, to raise the dead etc.

So....To be in, to walk in, to live in Christ is to walk, live, be in that anointing that Jesus anointed us with

BTW That was a good answer B-A-C

He has a baptism to be baptized with.
This baptism is spiritual; not physical.
It is supernatural and not of this world.

Jesus prayed about this being in Him:

"And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me." John 17:22-23

All we have to do is work on accepting that His prayer will be answered and that we will be one of those given to Jesus by the Father. When we are in Him then will we not be of the same mind with Him?

Paul says there is "One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Eph 4:5-6

To whom was Paul speaking? Was he not speaking to all of us who believe?

B-A-C excellent answer

May I add...
37 But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him,
38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled.....

42 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

44 Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me.
45 And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.
46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.
47 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
49 For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.
50 And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”

Note Jesus cried out... He wanted everyone to hear.

Jesus, in John 12, is clearly showing how He abides in the Father and the Father in Him. In Me, in Him.

John 15 goes on to confirm how we should abide in Him, what happens if we do and what happens if we don't.

John 17:22-23, as amadeus2 included, follows on from the verses stated above and is where Jesus prays for all believers.

Peace be with you.

You are asking a question that is simple to understand with the heart of a Christian, but very hard to grasp with carnal mind that is in our head. It is with the "heart" that man believes unto "righteousness", not his brain!! If you are born again child of God then you were placed in Christ before the world was ever created.

2Tim 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
2Tim 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Salvation was given to Christ's Church before the first human being was ever created!!! How can that be? Because God knew from the beginning who they were who after hearing the Gospel of their salvation would receive it. That does NOT mean God randomly choose who would be saved, as every one has the same opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as their savior. Being God he knew in advance who they would be, which is why Jesus said, "all that the father has given me will come to me" (John 6:37)

When did God the Father give us to Jesus?

Psa 2:6 "As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill."
Psa 2:7 I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you.
Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.

Here we have a picture in the beginning when God the Father turns to his Son and says to him, " Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage"
Jesus being the very Wisdom of God by which God created all things visible and invisible through his Son. Jesus Christ was the very first thing God brought forth before anything was created!! This is Wisdom being brought forth before the earth was created.

Pro 8:25 Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth,
Pro 8:26 before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world.
Pro 8:27 When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
Pro 8:28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep,
Pro 8:29 when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
Pro 8:30 then I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always,

Now the question would be, did Jesus ever "ask" His Father for what the Father asked him to ask for? :) We find this answer in the Book of Revelations.

Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

When Jesus came to earth he was "bearing" within himself precious seed which was his Church that the Father had given him from the beginning. We were chosen to be in him (Christ) from the beginning.

Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

There is much much more about this, but I will keep it short for now.
