Therefore Encourage One Another

1 Thessalonians 4:18 (ESV) “Therefore encourage one another with these words.”

If you ever follow someone on a busy stretch of road, you know how frustrating it can be to be separated by a red light. Some feel it has become such a problem that synchronizing traffic is seen as a small step that can have big results, even in reduced air pollution, and some communities are putting big bucks toward it. The state of California, for instance, recently allocated $150 million for a Los Angeles program. Still, no matter how great the technology, nothing makes driving more tense than a few extra seconds at a traffic light.

Wouldn’t be great if we could sync the return of Christ and bypass all the delay? For those who have passed away in the Lord, the groaning for Christ’s return is the same as ours. All true believers look to the day when the Captain of their salvation comes in glory.

For us believers who remain on this earth, the presence of the Lord is not distant from us (1 Thess. 4:17). Christ is in the midst of His people as the Head of the Body. His presence and power can’t be separated from those who are His. The same God that pre-exists time and holds all things together in perfect unison is the same God whose presence brings us delight, honor, and unspeakable comfort. This should be a great encouragement to us as we look forward to the return of the King.

Faith Lesson: The same Baby who was born “when the fullness of time had come” (Gal. 4:4) is the same risen Savior that defeated death to save sinners like you and me.

1 Thessalonians 4:14 “For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.”

In Christ,
Darin Smith
