There is no God

I am sometimes amazed at how sometimes people will take parts of a verse or passage in the Bible and twist to mean something else.

"The Bible says 'There is no God'". ... well.... does it?

Psalms 14:1;
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they have committed abominable [a]deeds;
There is no one who does good.

Psalms 53:1;
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God,”
They are corrupt, and have committed abominable injustice;
There is no one who does good.

So I guess it does... if you leave out most of the verse and change the context, now maybe this is a silly obvious example. But I see this frequently here on TalkJesus.
Well this word meant this six chapters ago when someone else was speaking.... OK.. that's fine. But it doesn't always mean the same thing, in every other passage.

This is called Gamaliel's Creed.

Acts 5
33 But when they heard this, they were cut to the quick and intended to kill them.
34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time.
35 And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men.
36 For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. But he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing.
37 After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who followed him were scattered.
38 So in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or action is of men, it will be overthrown;
39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God.”
40 They took his advice; and after calling the apostles in, they flogged them and ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them.

Gamaliel was a Pharisee, a teacher of the law. (in fact Paul says he was taught by Gamaliel)
But Gamaliel says ignore "false teachings". He gives some examples of some cults and sects that started up and existed for a while. But they died out after a while.
There are dozens of verses in the Bible that say have nothing to do with false teachings or even people who teach them. In fact if we look at history the Bible is right, and Gamaliel was wrong.
The Hindu religion in hundreds of years old, Buddhism is hundreds of years old, Islam is hundreds of years old. So just because we ignore a religion doesn't mean it will "fade away".
In the end Gamaliel doesn't even follow his own advice, but has the disciples flogged.

I could take a sentence that Gamaliel said here, and turn it into a doctrine if I'm not careful.
It the same with the book of Job.
Bidad, Zophar and Eliphaz all give Job some "seemingly helpful" (some may even perceive "godly") advice through the book of Job.
But in the end all their advice was wrong, it was not from God.. any of it.
Yet people quote them and turn what they said into doctrine.. "because it's in the Bible". Gamaliel and Eliphaz have been quoted here on TalkJesus more than once.
We need to be careful about what we quote as doctrine, even if it's in the Bible. After all the Bible says.. "there is no God".
