It is written in Psa 22:6 - But I am a worm, H8438and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.”

This verse is speaking of Jesus when he was on the cross. But why is he called a worm in that verse? If you look at that word worm in the Hebrew it means a scarlet or crimson colored worm called “coccus ilicis”.

When this scarlet worm has its young, it dies and bleeds out a red liquid onto her young. And after 3 days of being dead, the body of the worm turns white. Now to show what this scarlet worm represents we go to Isa 1:18 - Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD:though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, H8438 they shall be as wool.”

Notice the word crimson is the same word worm (H8438) used in the Psalm. So the Lord is showing sin as red, scarlet, or crimson. This by the way is why the Dragon is shown as red and the beast is shown as scarlet in the Revelation.

But why is Jesus shown as sin? Paul gives us this mystery in 2 Corinthians 5:21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

What amazes me about this is thinking about how God just might have created this little worm in the beginning just to symbolize sin and Jesus on the cross, just think about it. God had a detailed plan from the very beginning, amazing grace!

This scarlet worm which represents sin also reveals another mystery in Isa 66:24 - And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm H8438 shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched;and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh”
Again notice the same word scarlet (H8438) is shown again as worm. This is the same wording Jesus used in this parable about the need to remove sin in our lives. Jesus said in Mark 9:43-48And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”

Jesus is not talking about removing our physical body parts, he is talking about removing sin from our lives, or you will be in danger of hell. And your sins will still remain, eating at you like a worm on a dead carcass.

This parable is why Paul often compared sin like being “members”of your body, and the need to put them to death.

And that is why Jesus was made to be sin for us, so he could put to death in us that body of sin.
Romans 6:6
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”

Peace and God bless

Here is another interesting tidbit about the worm of sin (crimson worm). The male of the species is actually a fly.

Psalm 22 DE WORM MANNELIJK

The worm (‘towla’ or ‘tola’ath’ in Hebrew) of this Psalm bares the scientific name ‘coccus ilicis’.
A worm reminds us if an earthworm that is easily crushed under foot, but the ‘coccus ilicis’ (the Crimson worm) is actually more of an insect than a worm.
The male has wings and flies around. The female looks more like a maggot and cannot fly.”

What is interesting about this is, Baalzebub is known as the Lord of the fly.

Strong’s Definitions
בַּעַל זְבוּב Baʻal Zᵉbûwb, bah'-al zeb-oob'; from H1168 and H2070; Baal of (the) Fly; Baal-Zebub, a special deity of the Ekronites:—Baal-zebub.

And we see he is known as Beelzebub in the NT….

Matthew 12:24-27

King James Version

24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.”

So I believe there is a connection between the worm of sin, the Lord of the fly, and Satan; being the Prince of devils

Hello,
Here you find Jesus references the worm 3 times in Hell.

Mark 9:42-48

42 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me [i]to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— 44 where

‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’

45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—

46 where‘
Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’

47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire— 48 where

Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’

Yeah, I had those verses in my first post. Here is another place that word worms H8438 is shown..

Exo 16:20 - Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but someof them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, H8438 and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

That crimson worm is symbolic of sin.
