As I woke up this morning I asked God to please help me be humble and love everyone. It doesn’t always work that way. The family across the street were playing their music so loud that I didn’t get a good nights sleep. Then another neighbor down the street had a tree company come in very early this morning and start taking down some trees. What ever happened to the family neighborhood? Answer : Air-conditioning…
Upon the invention of air-conditioning we lost our fellow man. We used to sit outside on our porches to escape the heat in our homes. People would go for walks and stop to talk to you. You’d see your neighbor across the street and walk over and talk with them, but not today. We work, play and relax in air-conditioning today. This means we rush out, get into our cars and..turn the air on. When we get to where we’re going we jump out of our car and rush into wherever, into air-conditioning. It feels so good and that’s what we think about. Not about, how is my neighbor doing, much less how their life is going. We don’t want to know because then we’d have to stand there and listen. This means we’d be out in the open without our AIR. So what do we do, avoid eye contact. Look out the window before opening the door. We order caller ID so that we can choose whom to speak to. We turn on our TV’s, which by the way have become so big we need to build a special room for them, and jump between hundreds of channels looking for entertainment. Oh, there are so many movies that we have a hard time making up our minds as what to watch. We spent an hour just flipping through the channels and we finally decide there’s nothing on. Meanwhile, our neighbor, right next door, is going through some hard times and needs someone to talk to. They are going through a divorce, maybe their loosing their job, they find out that their children are hooked on drugs, they may even be having a heart attack. We don’t know anything until it’s to late. We see the flashing lights on the ceiling and get up to see what it is just in time to see our neighbor being carried out on a gurney. Then we sit there wondering what happened. What we don’t wonder is why we didn’t know something was happening BEFORE this.
If you don’t think Satan has his hands in this your wrong. Satan sits back and watches and implants ideas into man that will divides us even further. I know let’s give them cell phones so that they can call from anywhere and talk while say, Driving, Flying, at work, anywhere they might not want a phone call. The added feature is that if they were about to think about God we can interrupt that thought and have them answer their phones. Show them DVD players they can take with them anywhere they go. This will stop them from looking at the beauty God as created for them. No longer will they look out their windows to see the Sun set or The Sun rise. No longer will they step outside to see the stars in Heaven that God put up for them. No, they’ll what more and more entertainment. Oh, did I forget to tell you that the neighbor died? He did and you didn’t know because you were too busy to visit him in the hospital. Maybe all he needed was to know that someone cared. Maybe it would have help him recover knowing that his neighbor cared enough to visit him and ask if there was anything they could do for them. But you didn’t..I didn’t..WE DIDN’T… God I pray that we learn to put down all our toys and RE-LEARN how to Love our neighbor again. It doesn’t cost anything to stop and say Hi. It doesn’t cost anything to smile. You never know when a smile or a kind word may save someone’s life. So let’s take back our lives and let Satan know that he’s not winning. Let’s get out there and do what Jesus commanded us:
(John 13:34 NIV) "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
(John 13:35 NIV) By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
(Rom 13:8 NIV) Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.
(1 Pet 1:22 NIV) Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.
(1 John 3:11 NIV) This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
(1 John 3:23 NIV) And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.
(1 John 4:7 NIV) Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
(1 John 4:11 NIV) Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
(1 John 4:12 NIV) No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
(2 John 1:5 NIV) And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another.
This commandment shows up 11 times and in 10 verses. The choice is yours, so what’s it going to be? I for one am going outside now and talk with my neighbors.
