Keep watch
'Keep watch...you do not know...what day your Lord will come.' MATTHEW 24:42
If you've ever gushed and blushed over Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet falling big time in lurrrve in the film 'Titanic', you'll know it all ends tragically as the 'unsinkable' sinks. I bet you didn't know that it could all have so easily ended with Hollywood heroics.
You see, not far from where The Titanic was sinking, the ocean liner Californian, was getting a ring side seat of the whole event. The crew hadn't realized The Titanic's flares were distress signals. The radio distress calls were within range - except for one small detail. The Californian's radio operator had dozed off. So on April 12, 1912, without knowing what he was seeing, the liner's second officer watched the real Titanic sink!
Jesus said: 'People were eating...drinking, marrying...to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing...until the flood came and took them...That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man...keep watch...you do not know...what day your Lord will come' (Matthew 24:38-42 NIV).
As a Church, we don't want to be like the Californian's radio operator, having forty winks whilst the world around us is desperately sinking. As individuals, we don't want to be like the people in Noah's day, getting all lairy when big, big change is about to happen. So be warned; keep your eyes peeled, better still, keep your lives peeled!
