True giving (2)
'SEE THAT YOU ALSO EXCEL IN THIS GRACE OF GIVING.' 2 CORINTHIANS 8:7
As a Christian the reason you do anything good is because Jesus saved your life and gave you a brand new one. Paul writes: '...Jesus Christ...Rich as he was...gave it all away for us - in one stroke he became poor and we became rich' (2 Corinthians 8:9 TM). God gave us His best in Jesus, but we still give Him our sloppy seconds.
Instead of going out of our way for someone, we make excuses and fit them in when it suits us. Or we say we're gonna spend time with God but get so busy we just rant at him for a few minutes while trying to brush our hair / make toast / run to the bus stop, instead of really making time to talk.
Have you ever been given a present you hate, so you put it in a drawer for a while and then pulled it out as a present for someone else's birthday? Be honest! Well, that's how some of us approach giving to God - and to be honest its not just cheeky and rude - it's plain disrespectful! God made everything to give: He created the sun to give light during the day and the moon and stars during the night. He created flowers to give seeds.
God Himself is a giver: 'For God so loved the world that he gave...' (John 3:16 KJV). Your giving is not determined by your how much money you've got in the bank, or how much free time you can fit into your week. No, you give because God has already given so much to you and you love to make Him smile!
