Your quiet time with God (1)
'O GOD, YOU ARE MY GOD, EARNESTLY I SEEK YOU.' PSALM 63:1
When you come to meet with God you should check you attitude. Have you got:
1) Expectancy. Expect to 'give and get' from your time together. Expect a time of intimacy. It's impossible to have a love affair in a crowded public place; intimacy calls for being alone with the one you love. The Bible uses the example of the closest possible relationship when it talks about us and Jesus, the example of the Bridegroom and His bride.
2) Respect. Don't rush your time with God. Prepare your heart by being still for a minute before talking to Him. Deliberately clear away the cluttered thoughts of the day. Respect is reminding yourself with whom you are meeting; God! 'You are worthy...to receive glory and honour' (Revelation 4:11 NIV).
3) Alertness. God deserves your full attention so give God the best part of your day; when you are on top form. You might be a morning person like Jesus: 'Very early in the morning...Jesus...went off to a solitary place, where he prayed' (Mark 1:35 NIV) or you might be a night owl like David: 'On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night' (Psalm 63:6 NIV)
4) Willingness. This attitude is crucial: you won't develop a deeper relationship with God if you've already made your mind up about what you will or won't do if He asks. Decide right now to do everything God wants you to do. Jesus said, 'If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God' (John 7:17 NIV). So, once again, check your attitude if you want to move on with God today.
