You + God
'I sat alone because your hand was on me.' JEREMIAH 15:17
Having your mates around you is a great feeling - but being alone can be even better - when you're alone with God! In fact there are times when it's absolutely essential to make space for just you and God. The life of Jesus shows that over and over again:
1) 'Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed' (Luke 5:16 NIV)
2) 'Jesus... withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place' (Matthew 14:13 NIV)
3) 'he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.' (Matthew 14:23 NIV); God loves to clarify His plans for your life when there's nobody else around. That's because He wants you to be more influenced by Him, than them! When God's getting you ready for the next phase of growth He'll beckon you aside, away from the company of others. The great prophets of old knew this.
Elijah spent the night alone in a cave learning about the true power of God (1 Kings 19). Daniel 'was left alone, gazing at this great vision' (Daniel 10:8 NIV), and Jeremiah wrote: 'I sat alone because your hand was on me.' Learn to understand the difference between being lonely and being alone. When God calls you to spend time away from your mates don't treat it like a detention; it's a special honour! Learn all you can so that you're ready to be a world-changer.
