Touching Jesus
'A WOMAN IN THE CROWD HAD SUFFERED...' MARK 5:25
Mark records, 'a woman in the crowd had suffered for 12 years with constant bleeding.' She was desperate.
But her desperation gave birth to an idea - 'She had heard about Jesus...' (v27 NLT). And Jesus was in town! He was there on a mercy mission, on his way to help the synagogue leader. It's a bit odd to find the ruler and the woman in the same story. He's powerful. She's pitiful.
But they both need Jesus. His daughter is dying. Tragedy has a way of levelling the social ladder. She thought, '"...If I can just touch His robe, I will be healed"' (v28 NLT). So she pushed through the crowd until Jesus' robe was in sight. She stretched out her hand. 'Immediately...she could feel...that she had been healed...' (v29 NLT). She felt power enter. Jesus felt power exit. 'Jesus...asked, "Who touched my robe?" (v30 NLT). Next we read: '...The woman...knowing she was the one...knelt before him, and gave him the whole story' (Mark 5:33 TM). Wow! How long had it been since someone listened to her story? With the priest waiting, a child dying and a crowd pressing, Jesus made time for a woman on the fringe. Using special intimate language He says, '"...Daughter, your faith has made you well..."' (v34 NLT).
And we've been her, haven't we? Illness took her strength. What took yours? Harsh words? Bad advice? Disappointments? Controlling relationships? Is her hand your hand? Jesus is there for you even when it's hectic all around. He wants to hear your story. You can receive the power you need today. Even the emergencies can wait until you are restored!
