The upright tree
'IN QUIETNESS AND IN CONFIDENCE SHALL BE YOUR STRENGTH.' ISAIAH 30:15
Disney's Chip and Dale always get the best of Donald Duck. In one episode the chipmunks are in a tree and Donald is trying to find ways to get to them. First he puts on spiked shoes and climbs the tree but Chip and Dale sneakily untie his shoes. Next he tries a ladder but the chipmunks push this away and down he falls. After that Donald tries a rocket but they manage to divert it and send him way off course.
Finally, Donald has steam coming out of his ears and he starts to swing a large axe - trying to bring the tree right down. As the tree begins to fall it suddenly stops mid-air, then brings itself back upright. Donald is furious and the cartoon moves in on the chipmunks inside the tree, pushing against one side to bring it upright again. Now of course we know it's impossible to keep a tree upright by pushing on the inside, but those guys were about to lose everything and in that fight to survive they achieved the impossible.
Fair point, it's just a cartoon, but there are many times in our own lives when it looks as though the tree is going to fall, parts of our lives are going totally wrong and it looks as though there's no way out. Those are the times that all we have to lean and rely upon is our faith in God. By placing our confidence entirely in him and having a desperation to survive, that's when God can do the impossible. Those situations in life may be the hardest times but when we're weakest God can really show us who's in control.
