Small deeds count
'DO NOT DESPISE THESE SMALL BEGINNINGS, FOR THE LORD REJOICES TO SEE THE WORK BEGIN...' ZECHARIAH 4:10
What seems small to you might be huge to someone else. During one World War II mission an RAF pilot came under attack from Nazi anti-aircraft guns. These guns were deadly because they could fire very rapidly, they had a long range and worst of all, they fired 75mm artillery shells that would explode on impact. Amazingly, even though his fuel tank was hit the plane didn't explode, and the pilot was able to make a bumpy landing. After the raid the pilot asked one of the crew to try to locate the German shell, so he could keep it as a souvenir.
After investigating the crew member came back to him saying that not just one, but eleven artillery shells had been found in the fuel tank, none of which had gone off! They were all clean and harmless, and with one exception, empty. The exception contained a carefully rolled piece of paper. On it a message had been scrawled in the Czech language: 'This is all we can do for you now.' A brave worker forced to work on an ammunition assembly line had disarmed the shells so they wouldn't go off and had scribbled that note.
He couldn't stop the war, but he could save one plane. He couldn't do much, but he could do something, and he did. Famous preacher John Wesley said, 'Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you ever can.'
