Poison or Fruit
'WORDS KILL, WORDS GIVE LIFE!' PROVERBS 18:21
Have you ever been the topic of someone's gossip? Have you ever looked across a room and known that the group of people opposite are talking about you and throwing you dirty looks? Have you been part of that group, whispering, giggling and saying nasty things about another person? Listen: 'Words kill, words give life; they're either poison or fruit - you choose' (Proverbs 18:21 TM).
The words that you speak have the power to hurt someone, destroy their reputation and make their life miserable or they have the power to encourage someone so that they feel better about themselves; to defend people that are being picked on and to speak the truth instead of lies.
Which one would you rather be on the receiving end of? Talking badly about other people is destructive but it is also just as destructive for you to talk badly about yourself. When you make a mistake how do you react? Do you beat yourself up with words like, 'You idiot, how could you be so stupid!?' We've all done it at some time in our lives but what you need to remember when you are tempted to talk down about yourself, 'Words kill, words give life.' When you are critical and negative with your words it's as if you are making your soul drink poison, it will slowly eat away at your self esteem and emotions. When you are positive and encouraging with your words it's like giving your soul the tastiest apple to munch on! It builds you up and makes you strong and healthy. Remember, God is never negative and always encourages. Make that your word habit today!
