Happy whatever... (2)
''...BE RELAXED WITH WHAT YOU HAVE...'' HEBREWS 13:5
Did you hear about the farmer who got so fed up with his farm that he decided to sell it? His estate agent phoned wanting to discuss the text for an advert she intended to place in the local newspaper.
She read it to the farmer. It described a lovely farm in an ideal location - quiet and peaceful, with views of rolling hills, near a sparkling lake and complete with a herd of well-bred cows. The farmer said, 'Read that to me again.' After hearing it a second time he said, 'I've changed my mind.
I'm not selling. I've been looking for a place like that all my life.' The Apostle Paul learned a similar lesson which he passed on to his friends as a way of inspiring them to follow his example: '...I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances' (Philippians 4:11 NIV).
Maybe you could learn from his example too? Do you get jealous of your friends? Do you blow your spending money all at once and then sulk until you get next week's - then blow it all over again? Do you spend your time ducking and diving trying to make a few quid extra but wearing yourself out in the process? Listen: 'Better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil' (Proverbs 15:16 NLT).
Wise up and chill out! Make a regular habit of counting your blessings and thanking God for them. Thankfulness is the twin sister of contentment - so if you get friendly with thankfulness, contentment will soon come along and introduce herself to you!
