Growing in grace
'WEAR LOVE. IT'S YOUR BASIC, ALL-PURPOSE GARMENT.' COLOSSIANS 3:14
A grandmother celebrating her golden wedding anniversary shared the secret of her long, happy marriage: 'On my wedding day I decided to make a list of 10 of my husband's faults, which for the sake of our marriage I would overlook. I never did get around to listing any. Each time my husband did something I didn't like I would say to myself, 'Lucky for him that's one of the 10!' She was a wise lady!
Today's culture is obsessed with physical intimacy and the desires that bring you together but only God teaches the lessons in grace that will keep you together! Here's an idea that will help your relationship go the distance. When your boyfriend or girlfriend upsets you, instead of responding with angry words (or angry silence), stop and remind yourself that this is an opportunity to 'grow in grace.' Don't worry if you didn't do too well last time, you'll get another opportunity and probably pretty soon too and you'll keep getting them. Relationships are full of opportunities to be generous and opportunities to be forgiving. This awesome Bible verse ought to be framed and hung on your wall:
'Dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offence. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing' (Colossians 3:12-15 TM).
