Get rid of those old clothes!

'PUT OFF YOUR OLD SELF...PUT ON THE NEW SELF.' EPHESIANS 4:22-24

When you entertain certain thoughts in the privacy of your own mind you can be tempted to excuse yourself by saying, 'What harm will it do?' What harm? More than you know! Ultimately you become whatever you dwell on.

Paul writes; 'Take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ' (2 Corinthians 10:5). Take control of your thoughts or they'll take you places you don't want to go! Again Paul writes, 'Put off your old self...put on the new self.' You may not want to admit that you're still wearing those sad old clothes from your life before you met Jesus. Truth is, you can't put on a pukka new life 'til you first take off that shabby old attitude. And remember, with God there's no bottom drawer option; - the old stuff goes in the bin, - not in storage!

Here's some really important words from the Bible, read them carefully: 'Stop telling lies...tell [your] neighbours the truth...Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. If you are a thief, quit stealing...use your hands for good hard work...give generously to others in need. Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be...helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them' (Ephesians 4:25-29 NLT). Pretty practical eh!? What else do you expect?

When God's Spirit lives in you there's no need to:

1) lie in order to cover your back;

2) cheat to get ahead;

3) get moody when you don't get your own way;

4) talk people down to make yourself seem better than you are. Those are all old clothes; - bin 'em!
