'FAITH IS THE REASON WE REMEMBER GREAT PEOPLE.' HEBREWS 11:2
When the Bible says, 'Faith is the reason we remember great people,' maybe you think 'that settles it, I'll never be great'. However you might be surprised when you find out some of the people God bigs-up in Hebrews, Chapter 11.
Noah was a farmer-turned-boat-builder who got his name in lights because the boat he built survived the world's biggest ever flood. What we sometimes forget is that afterwards he got bladdered and disgraced his family!
Abraham wasn't a prophet or a teacher; he was a wheeler-dealer with some character issues who tried to save his neck by lying and putting his wife in danger. Sarah, a housewife, laughed in God's face when He told her she'd give birth to a child at 90 years old (and you'd probably have done the same!).
Then there's Rahab the hooker. How did somebody with her reputation ever become a woman of faith? You'll have to ask God; He included her on the list.
How about Jacob the con artist? Would you like to do business with him? Of course there was David, who committed adultery which led to murder.
And what about Gideon and Samuel, two big leaders whose children went right off the rails?
The bottom line is that all these 'greats'? were human just like us. In fact some of them would make us look like saints! You won't find any stained-glass material in this chapter. They messed up, screwed up and fell flat. The only thing they got right; they believed God and He honoured their faith!
