Dare to be yourself
'EVERY ONE OF US WILL GIVE AN ACCOUNT OF HIMSELF TO GOD.' ROMANS 14:12
You have to be up for a dare if you're going to follow God. That doesn't mean that He wants you to join your local bungee jumping club but He may direct you to do things that people around you don't understand or agree with. Insecure people tend to feel safer doing what others do; they are fearful of breaking the mould or standing alone.
Anytime you step outside of the boundaries of what others think is cool or normal, you risk rejection, but you can't allow that to keep you from fulfilling your God-given purpose. Confronting criticism becomes a little easier when you remember that ultimately 'everyone of us shall give an account of himself to God'.
Yeah, it stings when you're criticised, but if you're to succeed at anything you must have the same attitude that Paul had. Listen: 'I care very little if I am judged by you... it is the Lord who judges me' (1 Corinthians 4:3-4 NIV).
Secure people can handle being the only ones who dare to do something - not in a showing-off kind of way, and not just being random and stupid out of total boredom - but daring to live a radically different life - like the Jesus we follow.
