Hearing from God (3)
'HIS ANOINTING TEACHES YOU CONCERNING EVERYTHING.' 1 JOHN 2:27
We need to have an attitude that says, 'God, no matter what anyone else is telling me, or what I think myself, if I clearly hear You saying something to me I'm going to honour You and do what You say.' If we pray and hear something from God but then start asking everybody else what they think, we're putting human opinions above God's. This will stop us from developing the trust that is essential for any relationship to exist long term.
Okay, some decisions are really big and we need to be sure we've heard God right but at the end of the day we need to trust God to show us the way.
Listen, 'His anointing teaches you concerning everything' (1 John 2:27 AMP). The Apostle John wrote this verse as part of a warning he was giving to young Christians; he wanted them to be really careful who they listened to because at that time a lot of false teachers were leading people astray. He wanted them to know that God gives his Spirit as a guide and direct our lives.
We might ask more mature Christians for advice but we must not blindly follow other people. If we are ever going to develop the ability to hear from God and be led by His Spirit, we have to start making our own decisions and trust the wisdom God has deposited in our heart.
The devil wants us to think we're not capable of hearing from God. Don't buy it! The Holy Spirit that dwells inside you will give you confidence, comfort and counsel for your life. So, learn to listen to Him!
