2B like JC (2)
'We become more like Him.' 2 CORINTHIANS 3:18
Eight times in the New Testament, we're told to 'make every effort' 2 B like JC. You don't just veg out on the sofa and wait for it to happen. Our mate the apostle Paul explains our three responsibilities in becoming like Christ:
1) Changing our habits. Your character is made up of the sum of your daily habits. Listen: 'everything... connected with that old way of life has to go. It's rotten through and through. Get rid of it!' (Ephesians 4:22 TM)
2) Changing our thinking. The Greek word for transformed - metamorphosis - is used today to describe the amazing change a caterpillar goes through in becoming a butterfly and is a superb picture of what happens to us when we allow God to shape our thought life. As we spend time to chill with God, talking to him and reading his word, we take on the beauty of Christ's character; we leave behind those caterpillar limitations. Paul says 'be transformed by the renewing of your mind' (Romans 12:2)
3) Changing our clothes. God's word says, 'therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves...' (Colossians 3:12). Most people wouldn't go to a party in a school uniform; you need to dress yourself in the right gear to make the most of the moment. So in life put on the right things '...clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility and patience.'
