The Temple

Active
The temple of Solomon, consisted of the outer court, The Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. The outer court was for the people to congregate, the Holy Place was for the priests to minister to the people, and the Holy of Holies was where the high priest comuned with God.
1 Corinthians 3:16, Do you not know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst?
As scripture says we are also the temple of God, and like the temple of Solomon, our temple also has an outer court, a holy place and a holy of holies. The outer court is our flesh, ( our senses ) taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing. With our sense we experience the world, we taste it, we touch it, we smell it, we see it and we hear it, and when we've experienced it, we can also desire it. In the temple of Herod, Jesus turned out the money lenders that had come into the outer courts of his Father's house from outside. And our outer courts can be polluted by the outside world as well with it's temptations. We like Solomon's temple have a Holy Place, our soul ( our intellect, emotions and will ) in our Holy Place we reason, feel and act. Finally we have our Holy of Holies, this houses our spirit, ( concience, intuition and communion with the Spirit of God.) In our fallen state however, our temple has a problem, in our Holy of Holies, we cannot have communion with the Holy Spirit because, if you remember God said to Adam, " you can eat from all the trees in the garden, but of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you must not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die. In the garden Adam was immortal, that is why when he had eaten the forbidden fruit, God turned him out of the garden and placed cherubim at the entrance to keep Adam and Eve from the tree of life, without the tree of life Adam became mortal and subject to death. We inherited death along with sin from Adam, and so where the spirit of man should have been the dominant in the temple of man, having dominion over soul and flesh. Because the spirit no longer had the life-giving Spirit to enliven it, the soul became dominant over the spirit, and the soul, having no access to the Holy of Holies for guidance, becomes prone to allowing the flesh to be influenced by the temptations of the world. Jesus said we must be born again of Spirit. When this happens, the Spirit of God brings our spirit back to life where it can again take it's rightful place in dominion over the soul and the flesh, enabling us, with the Grace that the Holy Spirit brings, to overcome our sinful nature. Our sin then, rather than leading to death becomes a tool for the Spirit to use to humble us and bring us to our knees before God enabling him to bless us and give us joy.
