Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For [it is] good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them. Hebrews 13:8-9 NLT
Mankind looks for the new and improved. They are distracted by the shiny. New packaging inspires renewed interest. But in today's verses we read that Jesus thrives on eternal sameness. This can seem boring or counterproductive to what humanity seeks.
You might make bad choices, but you believe that you can make better choices in the future. If you want to earn more money, you do the hard work to move you from where you are to where you want to be. You read books to improve your marriage, parenting, and disposition. You believe it's natural and normal to change actions, ideas, and maybe even beliefs.
Humans change because they're imperfect. Jesus is perfect, so He doesn't change. When you trust the One who is unchanging, you end up with a belief system that stands the tests of time. You never have to wonder where you stand. And you discover a walk with someone who never turns His back on you.
Prayer: Dear God, You never change, but I do. Change me into the man You want me to be. May I rely on You like a cave in a rainstorm or bread on a hungry day. I thank You that You have always brought stability my life.
