Todays Devotional - Monday April 16th - Amazing grace
He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times … so your faith and hope are in God 1 Peter 1:20-21
Too much of what is special in life is considered unremarkable. We used to get excited about seeing a lover - now we grunt when they come home. A child who was eagerly waited is now yelled at for not doing what we want. We open the door of the home we fell in love with and give the surroundings little thought. Maybe that's human nature?
Peter is concerned that his readers are excited by truth that may have become commonplace: he reminds them that this Jesus was 'chosen before the creation of the world' and now revealed for their sake. God raised Him from the dead and gave Him a position at the helm of the universe.
So before setting the universe into being, the Father and Son knew The Son would come to rescue us and despite the severe anguish this would involve - He went ahead. There is in the heart of God a desire to love the unlovely and woo us to Himself so that we are caught up in this glorious community.
If you have faith today, it is in such a God, a God who planned to make provision that we, though sinful, might be made good. If it's human nature to become blasé, may God enable us to always rejoice in his goodness and grace!
Thank You, Lord that You have a heart of love for your world and that your son is at the heart of your purposes. Amen.
