I have to admit some of my favorite movies are about resistance.
Usually it's something like a World War II movie about occupied France or occupied Poland, but there are still people
inside those countries fighting against the oppressors. We live in a fallen world, what are we doing about it?
I wonder if we are the resistance? I know of no other issue in Christendom so debated today.
The Bible talks quite a bit about resistance. What does that mean?
If we put on the armor of God, we will be able to resist.
Eph 6:12; For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Eph 6:13; Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
We are told to resist the devil.
Jas 4:7; Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
1 Pet 5:8; Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.;
1 Pet 5:9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.
In some cases we may even have to resist to the point of physical harm.
Heb 12:3; For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Heb 12:4; You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;
I wonder if some of us are resisting at all? This becomes a point of contention among many Christians.
Some say we don't have the power to resist on our own. I actually agree with that statement.
But others say Jesus takes care of it all and does the resisting for us. I disagree with that statement.
I believe it's a combination of self agency and the power of Jesus in our lives.
Php 4:13; I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
We are still in a war for our souls. Are you in the battle? Are you resisting?
2 Cor 10:3; For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,
2 Cor 10:4; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
2 Cor 10:5; We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,
2 Cor 10:6; and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.
Sometimes the war is against our own fleshly desires.
Rom 7:23; but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members.
Rev 2:11; 'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.'
Rev 21:7; "He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.
Rev 21:8; "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
Sometimes our war is against false doctrines.
Eph 4:14; As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
I believe God wants soldiers, He wants people who are willing to stand up for the Gospel. He doesn't want
passive Christians, who are simply watching the battle from a distance.
Rev 3:15; 'I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot.
Rev 3:16; 'So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.
