Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him and [a]let it go? [As many as] up to seven times? Jesus answered him, I tell you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven! Matthew 18:21-22 AMPC
People will sometimes say or do things you don’t like or find offensive, and hurt will be the outcome. If you want to be a slave, then be a victim. Withhold forgiveness and demand a repayment no one will ever be able to make. But when you do, understand that you aren’t standing your ground but slipping backward.
You could celebrate National freedom Day today by offering forgiveness to those who need it—even if they don’t deserve it. That’s standing firm, holding your ground, and fixing your feet in a forward direction. Don’t retreat to bitterness, anger, and resentment. It’s a harsh condition that leaves you indecisive.
You want freedom but keep returning to your prison cell. Stop counting how often you forgive. Just trust God, forgive those who hurt you, and be set free.
Prayer: Father, I want to do what You do. Because You forgive me, help me be brave enough to forgive others. Help me set my feelings aside and obey You while I trust Your outcome. I want to remember that my rebellion left You on the cross. It was Your forgiveness that invited me home.
