Be still, and know that I [am] God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10
Men are natural doers, workers, initiators. Achievement means a lot to men. Work is part of a man's identity. And when work is done, there's more! Sports, hobbies, family events, church, community involvement--so many opportunities to be doing something.
Consequently, most men are too busy to be still or quiet for very long. It takes effort, but when God commands it, there's a reason. And what better reason than knowing your Father in heaven better? Men are so busy working out solutions to problems, creating the next thing, or meeting obligations, that they forget God is the Lord of all creation.
Though most people don't constantly have God on their minds and hearts, He will be exalted one day above all other concerns. He will exert Himself for His own glory globally. But you can enjoy the power of His presence now when you embrace the power of quiet. All you need to do is refrain from busyness to know Him.
God promises it will be worth the effort. He says, "I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name" (Isaiah 45:3).
Prayer: Father, You are the reward of my quiet moments, my treasure above all else.
