"You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world."1John;4:4
Recently God opened my understanding to realize the true meaning of this scripture. The One who is in me is me is greater than the one who is in the world. This is the One who said,"Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John;16:33 After He has said this, no one has defeated him yet.He also said,"I have the keys of Hades and death."Rev;1
Lord Jesus said," I received all authority in heaven and on earth."Mathew;28;28 When I read this I remember what the centurion came and told the Lord about his authority. Now Jesus Christ is the One who is the Head of all Principalities and powers.
"Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it."Col;2:14-15
He crushed the serpents head as the seed of woman. And this Jesus was raised to the right hand of the Father receiving a Name that is above all names and at whose Name every knee shall bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth. The one who is going to appear and rule and reign as King of kings and Lord of lords . This is the One who is in us.

The One who is in us

I read your post several times and had a little trouble understanding what your main point is. Correct me if I am wrong. I believe you are saying that the One (Christ) who overcame the world (He overcame by never sinning) is the same One who is in us.

I understand that God the Father gave Christ the fulness of His Spirit, who in turn give the Spirit to us. By the power of God's Spirit dwelling in us, we become "one" with the Christ, just as Christ is one with the Father (John 17:21). Thus, we too, can overcome the world by the power of the Holy Spirit. In effect, Christ lives in us and empowers us to overcome the world just as He did. It is not we who overcomes, but Christ who lives in us that overcomes.

Since Christ overcame the world at the cross, He purchased mankind's sin debt - the debt of course is death. Christ purchased it and now has the legal authority to deal with mankind as demonstrated by Christ being symbolically given the keys to death & hades. Since Christ now has the legal authority to deal with mankind's sin problem, He is able to save the world to fulfill the mission that the Father gave Him (1John 4:14). When all is accomplished, every knee of every person who has every lived shall bow and their tongue confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of the Father. Thus, Christ will have accomplished His mission given to Him by the Father. He will not fail. Mankind can only make this confession of faith by having the Holy Spirit indwelling each & every person (1Cor 12:3). Then, Christ will deliver up the Kingdom to the Father and God will be all in all (1Cor 15:20-28). The Father's Spirit which indwells Christ and all of mankind is the binding force which makes us & Christ "one" with the Father.

1Tim 2:4-6 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God (the Father), and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

wisebuilder, I've been thinking about that same thing lately, pertaining to Christ in us, from numerous verses I've read and find it very wonderful myself. I found a some of verses and hopefully you find them edifying as I did.

Luke 17--- 20.And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God comes not with observation: 21.Neither shall they say, See here! or, see there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Colossians 1 --- 27.To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

John 14 --- 15.“If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16.</SPAN>And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17.</SPAN>the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18.</SPAN>I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19.</SPAN>Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20.</SPAN>On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21.</SPAN>Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”</SPAN>

John 14 --- 23.Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him

1 Corinthians 2 ---12.And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.
13.When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. 14.But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. 15. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. 16.For,
“Who can know the Lord’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to teach him?”
But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.

Galations 2 --- 18.Rather, I am a sinner if I rebuild the old system of law I already tore down. 19.For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. 20.My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.

Romans 8 --- 10. And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.

Galations 4 --- 19. My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you,

These are just some of the ones I could find. I dont wish to expound as dogma, the meaning of these, since Im sure some will hear different things depending on where God has them at the time. Im going to leave the word alone, between the Spirit and those who read them, to work them out according to scripture. Rather I hope these are found to be helpfull to those who read them.

Christ in us, the hope of glory

Jason h,
Those are wonderful verses you quoted. Though we only have an earnest (down payment) of the Spirit now, we know that someday, we will have the full measure just as Christ has the full measure. I long for that day.

Dear Wisebuilder, though all things are put under the power of Jesus in Matthew 28:18, And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. He has not taken that authority as yet as we read in Hebrews 2:8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under His feet. For in that He put all in subjection under Him, he left nothing that is not put under Him. But now we see not yet all things put under Him.

The prophesy of this will come during the Lord's Day starting with the tribulation. Jesus will have His own throne, be known as King of kings, and Lord of lords and everything and everyone except the Father will be subject to Him. 1 Corinthians 15:27 For He hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that He is excepted, which did put all things under Him.

Even during the tribulation there will be nations ruling in usurpation unwilling to relinquish their power, and it takes seven years for Jesus to gain that control other than just wiping all humanity from the map. But for the elect's sake huh? Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

I have heard preachers saying who is in us is the Holy Spririt.True! But you don't get kick if you take it that way.Now Jesus said,"On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you."John;14:20
If you find out it is Jesus who is in you and what he accomplished and who he really is that helps rather than simply saying it the Holy Spirit who is in us.For example the Roman Centurion came to Jesus and said like this," For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
Mathew;8:9
And think about the authority Lord Jesus got from the Father,"All authority in heaven and on earth."He is the One who told us to go.

But he is can subdue all things to himself. When we experience the power of resurrecction we also can overcome everything.
