But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept. Genesis 33:4 AMPC

Twin brothers separated by time and choice—neither certain a family reunion would be possible. Esau gave Jacob his birthright for a pot of stew. Jacob took the blessing of his father when he knew it was meant for Esau. It’s likely they hadn’t seen each other in more than twenty years. Time had changed both men.

When Jacob heard Esau was on his way to meet him, he assumed the worst and created a contingency plan to help save his family. The plan wasn’t needed. Jacob was Esau’s only brother. It had been a long time since he’d seen family.

You’re probably different today from how you were twenty years ago. It’s equally likely that the people you grew up with—the family you grew up with—have also changed. The paths some people choose leave them unrecognizable and you uncomfortable. Some people take a path you never expected, and a deeper friendship becomes possible.

Take a personal assessment. Is your today better than yesteryear? Is your heart bent in a God-shaped direction or elsewhere? God transformed Jacob and Esau. He can change you. It’s called new life living.

Prayer: Father, let me never think it impossible that You could change anyone’s life. You’re the God of lost causes, and You can change what seemed unchangeable in me—and in others.
