The popular Marvel Universe dims before yours.
The Bible records numerous stories of the marvelous works God did in and through the “capable men” described in 1 Chronicles 26:7, 9, and 30-32. Unlike fictional Marvel heroes, these real men made a lasting difference through the power of God at work in them.
The apostles were similar men. Luke tells us, “God gave Paul the power to perform unusual (marvelous) miracles” (Acts 19:11 NLT). Thankfully, the power of God shows up today in many additional miracles such as witnessing, counseling, mentoring, business transactions, and parenting. In other words, the same marvelous power now works in and through you.
Then again, power can create problems too.
For example, as Paul’s fame spread, others tried to mimic his power. In one instance, a demon interrupted their attempts saying, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul but who are you?” (Acts 19:15 NLT). That’s a scary conversation!
Pride will always diminish the marvel in what God is doing in you and through you.
You can combat this, and enjoy the power of God, by giving thanks each day for “his wonderful (marvelous) deeds for mankind” (Psalm 107:21 NIV).
Prayer: Lord, help me evaluate my pride so that I can marvel at the universe in which You’ve placed me.
