Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures. He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. Acts 18:24-25 ESV

God never asked people to think He’s cool and then make things up about Him, but some people do that very thing, often basing their conclusions on experiences and feelings that don’t match up with what His Word actually says.

The Bible doesn’t say much about a Jewish man named Apollos, but we do know he was a thinking man. He could string words together in a way that’s described using the word eloquent. He was knowledgeable enough to speak accurately about the Bible. He had been instructed, which means he had learned about the faith he spoke about.

Apollos’s life can be an encouragement for us to do as he did. We should talk about Jesus, but we should make sure we’re sharing heart-changing truth and not guesses. We should use our minds to read and learn and refuse to share what we’re unsure of. God’s truth will always have a greater impact on people’s hearts than our best guesses.

Prayer: Father, I need to learn to share what I know. But before I can do that, I need to take the time to really get to know You and what You want me to tell others.
