"The Lord is With You.........2 Chronicles 15: 2.
The ringing affirmation underlines the reality of God's presence with the believer.
For the surrendered life, is one that is lived in unbroken communion with God. It is entirely dependant upon Him
for its maintenance.... It only flourishes in the sunshine of His nearness. Should that intimate companionship be
withdrawn, it will quickly wither and fade.
"The Lord is with you"......
fellowship with God is initiated from the divine side. It cannot begin with any contact
we are capable of making with the Most High, for did He not first invite us to commune with Him, and graciously
open up the way through Christ the Lord? We could never even touch so much as the hem of His garment.
He is the 'wholler other'. He is the high and lofty One... who inhabits eternity, and we are the frail creatures of the
passing day.
It is not in our capicity to climb up into the capacity of God, .....as Luther used to put it.
If ever we are to hold fellowship with the eternal, it must be because of His gracious condecention and uplifting.
We can only be with the Lord.......as the Lord is with us.
But how we should rejoice.....in the privilage that is thus extended to us.
"The Lord is With You"
That is the very nature of God. He has made us for Himself, and He delights to commune with His children.
It is significant that in this verse the verb is not expressed, as you will gather from the italics in the A.V.
What the prophet declares is, "The Lord With You"
Any tense may be supplied. This generous verse provides us , with a blank cheque which we can
fill in and draw upon whenever we want.
Experience has proved God's presence ...in the past....Faith appropiates it in the present.......Hope appropriates
it in the future.
