Now I have built a glorious Temple for you, a place where you can live forever!" 2 Chronicles 6:2 NLT
Some have called church a hospital because people who are sick spiritually can expect to get well there. Some think of it as a place where disciples grow. King Solomon seemed to think something similar. He didn’t call the temple a learning center, but that’s what happened there.
This was something God allowed the wisest king in history to build. There hadn’t been a permanent place to learn about God before. This learning center taught people the value of community, enhanced the idea of spending time with God, and was a place to get answers.
Teaching would occur there. Learning was the choice of those who came expecting to learn. God doesn’t disappoint His students.
So think of a church as a place where spiritually hurting people can have their hearts healed and then learn how to live a new and revitalized life. It really can—and should—be both.
Is it any wonder that God says staying away from His learning center is a very bad idea?
Prayer: You teach, and I can learn, Father. Help me understand what seems like a mystery and then believe what You tell me is truth. May the people I worship with be both those who need healing and those who continue to be healed because they stay close to You.
